Marcia Elaine Barron Fox (December 1, 1929-December 30, 2009).  

 

RICHMOND HILL, BRYAN COUNTY, GEORGIA - Marcia Elaine Barron Fox, 80, of Richmond Hill, GA, passed away at home on December 30, 2009, after a brave fight against cancer. Born in Savannah, GA, on December 1, 1929, to Ira and Ona Barron, she was predeceased by five siblings and her son, Stephen Fox. Survivors include her spouse of 62 years, Eugene Fox; daughter, Rebecca Casto (Phil) of Flowery Branch, GA; son, Gene Fox of San Marco, CA; and son, Marty Fox of Richmond Hill. She is also survived by four granddaughters, nine great- grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends. Mrs. Fox will be remembered for her ready smile, as someone always looking for the best in people, and for her positive attitude that she kept until the end. In keeping with her wishes, the body will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at Tybee Island this spring. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation in her memory to Hospice Savannah Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31314. Brian Hugh Leighton (Nov. 29, 1972-December 31, 2009).  

 

SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA  - Brian Hugh Leighton, 37, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2009 with his loving family by his side, after a two year illness. The lifelong resident of Savannah was formerly employed by Food Lion with twelve years of service. Having been blind, Mr. Leighton was passionate about helping others with disabilities and in recent years had devoted his life to serving the blind community in Savannah. He was the former president for the Savannah Council for the Blind where he actively played a role in legislative affairs. He served on the Committee of Savannah on Disability Affairs and was a state board member for the Georgia Council for the Blind. Mr. Leighton also served as Vice Chair on behalf of the Savannah Council of the Advisory Committee on Accessible Transportation under MPC and was an advocate for the disabled having served with L.I.F.E. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Leighton of Savannah; parents, Andrew and Barbara Leighton of Savannah; sisters, Brandy Leighton and Amy Dixon of Savannah; brothers, Chris Dixon of Savannah, and Ronnie and Roger Dixon of South Carolina. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Sarah B. Linton -

 

ST. SIMONS ISLAND - Sarah B. Linton of St. Simons Island passed away at home Nov. 24th after a short illness. Sarrah was born March 12, 1912 in Larned, Kansas where she lived until she graduated from high school. She went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kansas. She worked both as a librarian and a law clerk during the depression years. Sarah was the widow of Donald H. Linton whom she married just before W.W. II. They lived in Boston for a short time until he was drafted into the army and she moved back to Kansas to have her first child. They returned to Boston after Don came back from Europe and lived there until 1958 when they moved to Jesup, Ga. In 1964 they retired to St. Simons Island. Sarah played golf for years at Sea Palms and also enjoyed weekly card games of bridge and gin. She is survived by her son Drue Linton of Meridian, Ga. Her daughter Betsy Freeman passed away in 2007. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; David Linton of Atlanta, Ga., Don John Linton, Susan Kerns, and Solon Linton all of Missoula,Mt. and Kevin Ferguson of Meridian, Ga. She was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren before she died. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at Lovely Lane Chapel at Epworth on St. Simons. SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - Anna Schaeffer Shadel, 96, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 under the care of Hospice Savannah. Mrs. Shadel was born in Redding, PA on September 26, 1913, the daughter of the late Irwin and Edna Mae Boynton Schaeffer. Anna had resided in Savannah for the last year and a half, previously residing in Annapolis, MD for many years. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Mrs. Shadel was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Donald F. Shadel. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn A. McLauchlan of Savannah, GA; son, Donald L. Shadel of Columbia, SC; brother, James F. Boynton of Monroe Township, NJ; granddaughter, Angela E. Richardson and great-grandchildren, Cullen and Colton Richardson. She attended the public schools of Chatham County and was a graduate of Beach-Cuyler High School. She was employed by National Lenin Service for over 30 years as a seamstress. Sis. Walker lived most of her life in service to the Lord at Savannah Church of God where she served in various ministries, most notably as a Deaconess and Vice-President of the Georgia State Usher Board. She is survived by her daughters; Carolyn W. Bell of Gaithersburg, MD, Gwendolyn W. Rogers of Savannah, GA, two sisters; Dosha Meade of Bronx, NY, Beola Brown of Jonesboro, GA, one God-child; Craig Cook of Savannah, GA, her grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
