Survivors: husband, Jimmy Sharpton; daughter, Kim Sharpton Lawson (Jeffery); sons, Jim Sharpton (Nancy) and Scott Sharpton (Marie); mother, Iris Moore; and other relatives. Mrs. Debbie Moore Sharpton, age 55 of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native Telfair County and moved to Mt. Vernon in 1973. She was a loan officer with Mt. Vernon Bank for fifteen years, and was employed with Heartland Academy in Mt. Vernon as a paraprofessional for ten years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, and former choir member. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Eugene Moore, and four siblings. Debbie was active with the Montgomery County Relay for Life, enjoyed spending time with her family at their beach home in Sapelo Sound, and also enjoyed Solitaire and crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Sharpton is survived by her husband, Jimmy Sharpton, one daughter, Kim Sharpton Lawson and husband Jeffery, two sons, Jim Sharpton and wife Nancy and Scott Sharpton and wife Marie all of Mt. Vernon, her mother, Iris Moore, one sister, Sharon Pfliger and husband Jim, one brother, Herbie Moore and wife Benita all of McRae, five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25th at 11:00 am in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Carl Hay officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida by visiting their website at mayoclinic.org.
