LYONS, TOOMBS COUNTY, GEORGIA - Mr. L. E. Knight, 85, died Thursday, May 20, 2010. Survivors: wife, Martha Nan Carter Knight; sons, Gene Knight, Vance Knight and Lloyd Knight; daughters, Elaine Coleman and Elizabeth Coward; sisters, Naomi Stancil, Virginia Bishop and Connie Johnson, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lyons, Mr. L. E. Knight, age 85 of Lyons, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 in the Toombs Nursing Home of Lyons after an extended illness. He was a native of Valdosta, growing up there, and entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed in Jacksonville, Florida at both the Gilman and Mayport Shipyards for twenty-five years. He moved to Toombs County in 1969, and worked with Sea Island Cotton Gin in Vidalia for twenty years and retired. He was a member of the St. Matthews Church of God, and was preceded in death by his parents, Will E. Knight and Etta Clark Knight.
 
Mr. Knight is survived by his wife of sixty years, Martha Nan Carter Knight of Lyons, three sons, Gene Knight of Lyons; Vance Knight of Uvalda; and Lloyd Knight of Nashville, Tennessee, two daughters, Elaine Coleman of Lyons; and Elizabeth Coward of Rock Hill, South Carolina, three sisters, Naomi Stancil, and Virginia Bishop of Jacksonville, Florida, and Connie Johnson of St. Simons, Island, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
