Mary Drake Bland -

 

METTER Ð Mary Drake Bland, 80, died Saturday November 14, 2009 in Savannah. The native of Jenkins County lived most of her life in Metter and was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church, and the Naomi Sunday School Class. Mrs. Mary retired from Metter Bank as a Vice-President and Social Director, enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, playing bridge on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, following the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves, but she especially loved spoiling her grand and great grandchildren and Jake their beloved Boston Terrier. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Charlton (T.C.) and Susie Johnson Drake and a brother Tommy Drake. Survivors; Husband of 62 years J.C. Bland of Metter, Daughters; Beth (Randy) Nessmith, Sue (Bucky) Wagner both of Statesboro, Grandchildren; Sunny Youmans III of Metter and Betsy K. (Scott) Standridge of Statesboro, Great Grandchildren Liza and Charlee Standridge Funeral services will be 11:00 Tuesday at the Metter First Baptist Church with visitation to be held at Mrs. Mary Home 597 S. College St. Monday evening beginning at 5:00PM. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery. Visitation will also be held 10:00 the morning of the service at the First Baptist Church. JACKSONVILLE, FL - Evelyn Strain Harlin, 79, died November 11, 2009 at Sterling House Assisted Living under the care of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. She was born in Roanoke, Alabama, daughter of the late, Padrue K. and Lois McCarter Strain. She lived in Savannah for fifty years until she recently moved to Jacksonville to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Harlin was an accomplished piano and guitar teacher for over thirty years. Her husband of sixty two years, Rudolph Harlin, brother, Ray Strain and grandson, Joseph Harlin preceded her in death. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lynn Harlin; sister, Syble Spears and her husband, Bill; grandsons, Christopher Harlin, Jonathan Borgsmiller and his wife, Jessica; great grandson, Christian Harlin; nieces, Angelia Kaplan and Hilda Jones. SAVANNAH - Lillian Kimker Hendry, 94, died Friday, November 13, 2009 at Hospice Savannah. Mrs. Hendry was a native and life long resident of Savannah. She was a graduate of Savannah High School and later attended Armstrong Junior College. Over the years, she worked with Southern Bell and the Chatham County Board of Education. As a life long member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, she was involved with many aspects and activities of the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Kimker, her husband, Iverson Walker "Pete" Hendry, and granddaughter, Heather Ann Hendry. She is survived by her son, Peter Walker Hendry; brother, John Kimker, Jr., both of Savannah; granddaughter, Michelle Hendry McDonald; great-granddaughters, Amanda Kellam, Kayle Stewart, Rebecca Broad, Anna Kellam, Abbey Hendry, and many nieces and nephews. Vera Harrell Jones -

 

SAVANNAH - Vera Jones, 70, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Candler Hospital. Vera was born in Wilmington, NC on March 13, 1939 to John L. Harrell, Sr. and Gertrude Price Harrell. She graduated from New Hanover High School before moving to Savannah. For over twenty years, she was a delightful presence and favorite waitress to many at Johnny Harris Restaurant. Most recently she worked with Prymetyme at the Y.M.C.A. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to all of those at the Y.M.C.A for the love that was shown to Vera. During her time off, she enjoyed bowling. Vera was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, "P.L."Jones of Savannah; daughters, Paula Barla (Jon Mattonen) of Savannah, and Pamela Keen (Tony Lombardo) of Ellabell; brothers, John Harrell of Jacksonville, FL, Francis Harrell of Castle Hayne, NC; grandchildren, Gene Horan, Jr., James Barla, DeWayne Keen II, and DeAnn Keen; granddaughters-in-law, Shannon Lane, Chrissy Horan and Heather Keen; great-grandsons, Caleb Barla, Jacob Barla, David Keen, and Joshua Horan; and P.L.'s family of three sons, two daughters, and their families. SAVANNAH - Geraldine Tatum Murphy, 79, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Hospice Savannah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Murphy and her parents, William D. and Minnie Reddish Tatum. She was born and raised here in Savannah and attended local schools. She was retired from Southern Bell with over 34 years of service as a Telephone Operator and was also retired from Candler Hospital with over 12 years of service. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and was an active member of the Council of Catholic Women and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She is survived by a sister; Josephine Wilkins of Savannah; 4 nieces, 6 nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009. Lee was educated in the Jasper County Public School system at Gillisonville Elementary School, Ridgeland, South Carolina. He had a outstanding career in the Army and retired with the rank Of Command Sergeant Major. When he retired from the Army in 1969 he was awarded The Meritorious Service Medal. Lee owned and operated several successful business ventures in Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Juanita T. Newton and leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Lynne Shivers and two sons, Steven High and Tony Newton, four grandchildren and a host of loving relatives. Viewing: 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Calvary. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 4:00 pm at Mt. SAVANNAH - Lillian Hart Parrish, 79, died Friday, November 13, 2009 under the care of Hospice Savannah. Mrs. Parrish, a native of Savannah was born on January 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Charlie James and Irene Hendrix Hart. She attended Commercial High School and was a longtime member of Silk Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Henry G. "Butterbean" Parrish. She is survived by her daughters, Paula (Mike) Conner of Thunderbolt, Patti (T.O.) Roy Lee Williams -

 

RICHMOND HILL - Roy Lee Williams, age 77, died on November 13, 2009. Roy was born in Clyde, GA on September 27, 1932, to the late Fred Williams and Lottie Cribbs Williams. Later the Williams family moved to Richmond Hill where he remained for the rest of his life with the exception of time in the U. S. Army and two years in Augusta, GA. He attended the Richmond Hill schools graduating in the class of 1953. He joined the U.S. Army upon graduation and served the majority of his time in Orleans, France. Upon returning to Richmond Hill, he acquired a job with Pittsburgh Paint and Glass Company working in the warehouse and worked his way to manager of the paint store, before he retired after 32 years. The company later became PPG Industries. He then worked for Peacock Paints as store manager for three years. Upon leaving the paint business, Roy drove a school bus for the Bryan County School System for eleven years. Roy was a 50+ member of the Richmond Hill United Methodist Church. He was a founding member of the young adults and couples Sunday School Class which later became the Fishermans Class. He was a member of the R. H. Jaycees and the R. H. Ford's Bucks and Does Square Dance Club. Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Rushing and brothers, Connie and Redge Williams. Roy and Sammie were married on May 9, 1959 and celebrated their 50th anniversary on May 9, 2009 with family and friends. Survivors: wife, Addie B. "Sammie" Williams; daughters, Teresa Guidry (Kent) of Lafayette, LA, and Diane Wright (Billy) of Brooklet, GA; grandchildren, Jason Carpenter (Christie), Joshua Carpenter (Jade) and Jeni Wright of Brooklet, GA, Benjamin White, Adam White and Jacob Daigle of Baton Rouge, LA; great-grandchildren, Samantha Carpenter and Jason Michael Carpenter of Brooklet, GA; brother, Hubert Williams, Barnesville, GA; niece and caregiver, Mildred Hilliard and numerous other nieces and nephews.
