SAVANNAH - Mrs. Leonia Fabain Bailey, 88 was the first born to the late Mr. Westley Fabain and the late Mrs. Lela Speed, raised by Mrs. Bessie Elizabeth Gillins. A native of Savannah, Ga. , she attended school in the Chatham County School System. Leonia was a very active member of First Bryan Baptist Church, first serving as a choir member, Deaconess, and the Sisterhood Ministry. She was a retired employee of The Savannah Chatham County Board of Education. Her husband, Mr. George Franklin Bailey proceeded her in death. Survivors : two sons, McKinley Thomas (Shirley) Jefferson and Vincent L. Jefferson both of Hampton, Va. : five daughters, Celestine (James)Jackson; Eunice (John) Feagin both of Savannah, Ga . ; Janice (Terry) Rogers of Norfork, Va. ; Amelia (Prezell) Goodman of Tampa, Fla; and Antoinette Hayes of Charlotte, NC; four sister-in-laws Evelena Pugh, Lilliebelle Smith, Fannie Lee Bailey and Carrie Mincey all of Savannah, Ga. ; long life sister Anna N Williams of Savannah, GA; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren; an adopted family, Nguyen Ngo of Savannah, Ga. and other extended relatives and friends . SAVANNAH - Edward Allen Caughran passed away at home on November 21st in the care of Hospice of Savannah. He was born in Fayetteville, TN on August 31, 1931. He was a graduate of the University of Miami then worked in Savannah for the Board of Education as band director of Savannah High School and Coordinator of Arts and Music. Edward is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol, and his brother, Clarence Caughran. He is survived by his wife, Doris, his brother, Bennett Caughran, his sons and their wives, Joel and Tashia Caughran and Allen and Christy Caughran, eight grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a cast of characters. The family wishes to express its great appreciation to Hospice of Savannah and John O'Neil for their excellent care. Mrs. Hanson was born in Tattnall County and had lived most of her life in Chatham County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Boyce Hanson. She was a member of the Ellabell Church of Christ and retired in 1983 from Georgia Pacific. SAVANNAH - Helen Brown Jungemann, 87, died November 21, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Albany, daughter of the late, Henry Albert Brown and Willie Bell Bothwell Brown. Mrs. Jungemann was an accredited master flower show judge of National Garden Clubs. She was a member of the Hibiscus Garden Club, the Garden Club of Georgia, Deep South District, past president of Garden Club Council of Chatham County and former member of Savannah Rose Society. She was an active participant at the Windsor Forest Golden Age Center. She was a longtime member of White Bluff Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, sang in the Chancel Choir and was a member of Joy Sunday School Class. Mrs. Jungemann was also a member of the Intercessors for Israel prayer group. Her daughter, Susan Claire Jungemann preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Edward F. Jungemann; daughters, Mary J. Pilgrim; Ann J. Robertson and her husband, Randy; grandson, Randall E. Robertson all of Savannah and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Mrs. Jungemann will lie in state Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at White Bluff Presbyterian Church from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. Funeral: 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at White Bluff Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Eric Beene officiating. SAVANNAH - Born 1924 in Savannah, GA, the son of the late Joseph A. and Katherine Ciucevich O'Leary. Attended Marist and Benedictine Military School, Class of 1942. Served in US Navy 1943 - 46 and 1951 - 53. Graduated from University of Georgia School of Forestry in 1949 with Bachelors in Forestry. Worked for State of Arkansas Forestry Commission before joining International Paper Co. from which he retired in 1985. Mr. O'Leary was an Eagle Scout with a lifelong love of the outdoors. He served as a Boy Scout leader, president of the Lions Club, and rose to Senior Forester with International Paper Company. He was an irrepressible sailor who built 15 boats and used them all as often as he could around his beloved Tybee Island. He was a member of the Hibernian Society, Knights of Columbus (4th degree), BC Alumni Association, Navy League, and a volunteer at Candler Hospital. Mr. O'Leary was a devout Catholic and a pillar of several small churches in GA and SC before returning to Sacred Heart in Savannah. He served as an altar boy, religious education teacher, lector, choir member, handyman, and inspiration at every parish he belonged to. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife, Bette Rosamond Elliott O'Leary of London, England; 2 sons, Joe and Terri O'Leary of Atlanta, Peter and Ann O'Leary of Chimney Rock, NC; and 2 daughters, Fran O'Leary and Elizabeth and Dale Stone of Aiken, SC; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dan and Mary Kay O'Leary of Tybee, and John and Carolyn O'Leary of Georgetown, SC. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Rosary Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following at the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. PORT WENTWORTH - Kent Cooper "K.C." Rahn, 77, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Hospice Savannah. The Effingham County native was a member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. He was retired from Savannah Sugar Refinery after 39 and a half years of service. The U.S. Marine Corp Korean War Veteran was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Eula Rahn, and his sister, Elizabeth Hodges. Survivors include his wife, Robbie Bragg Rahn; daughters, Patrice Rahn and Dana Smith (Carl); son, Guy Kent Rahn (Maria); five grandchildren, Michelle Trotter (Tradd), Melissa Matthews (Troy), Morgan Rahn, Molly Smith, and Cody Rahn; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Matthews; brother, Alfred H. METTER - Robert (Bob) Sikes 81 died Sunday at the Candler County Hospital after an extended illness. The native of Tattnall County lived most of his life in Metter and was retired from the Department of Transportation. Mr. Bob was of the Baptist Faith an army veteran of the Korean conflict, worked several years at Hooks Mortuary, enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Survivors; His wife of 55years Shirley Hodges Sikes, Daughters; Wanda (Phil) Finnerty, Linda (Troy) Oglesby, Bobbie Jo (Jody) Nasworthy, Grandchildren; Garrett and Jansin Jarrell and Shaylin and Payce Oglesby. SAVANNAH - James Dunworth Stanton, 74, died Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Hospice House. Born at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, on March 16, 1935, he was the son of the late Walter Clement and Louisa Layng Stanton. Following a long standing family tradition, Jae graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1958. He served proudly as an Airborne Ranger in the Infantry. Among his duty assignments, he commanded the 1/502 Infantry at Ft. Campbell, KY, served two tours of duty in Viet Nam, and one with the MAAG in Iran. He retired as a Colonel in the United States Army in 1981 He received an MBA from George Washington University and then worked for Merrill Lynch in Tysons Corner, VA, retiring for the second time in 1994. He and his wife, Annie, moved to Savannah in 1995, settling at The Landings on Skidaway Island. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Ann McCormack Stanton of Savannah; his daughter, Christina Stanton, of Savannah; two sons and their wives, James D., Jr. and Christine Stanton, of Alpharetta, GA and Daniel D. and Kyoko Stanton of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Walter C. Stanton, Jr. of Kiawah, SC, and three grandchildren, Darby Stanton, Dylan Stanton, and Samuel Stanton. He was preceded in death by a son, John Morrow Stanton. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to Hospice House of Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Born in Wrightsville, GA on September 28, 1926, he was a son of the late Rev. Norman and Minnie (Daniels) Thomas. He is survived by his stepmother, Mable Thomas, Willie worked as foreman at George Woloch Plastic Factory, Allentown , prior to retiring. He served in the Army as a private during World War II. Survivors: daughters, Minnie Wingster, Evelyn Horn, Ethel Thomas, Mone Thomas, Maya Thomas; sons, Earl Haynes, Sr., Dexter Thomas Chisholm, Norman Thomas Chisholm, Jason Thomas; sisters, Louise Lewis, Ellamae Washington; brothers, Major, Eddie, Warlewis Thomas; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild; aunt Williemae Thomas; nieces, nephews including supreme court justice, Clarence Thomas. SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - Rose Steptoe Thompson, 89, passed away with her family by her side on November 21, 2009. She had lived at Tybee Island for 53 years. Rose was born in Toombs County to the late William and Callie Mayo Steptoe. She was a Chatham County school bus driver for 23 years, and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for Savannah Beach Nursing Home. She was a member of the Chatham Retired Teachers' Association. She was a member of Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as Church Historian, Treasurer, and as a member of the Administrative Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Benjamin Thompson, Sr., sons Robert Steven and Carl B. Thompson, Jr.; sisters Ruby S. Brown, Ruth S. McCallum and Rachel S. Nunn; and brothers William, Clarence and Joseph Steptoe. She is survived by sons Thomas S. Thompson and J. David Thompson (Christine); daughters Jan Howard (Jim), Margaret R. Penoyer (David), and Gail Waller; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Today, November 24 at Fairhaven Funeral Home. She was born in Savannah, Ga., and was a 1940 Graduate of Commercial High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas J. Constantine and Myrsine Kourabaklis Constantine, and a brother, Theodore Constantine. Mary retired from ATF Trucking Company, having served as a Bookkeeper. Mary was a member of St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, where she was the First Female President of the Parish Council, a member of the Daughters of Penelope, Amaltheia Chapter No. 262; and a member of St. Barbara's Philoptochos Society. She is survived by a daughter, Sister Chrysovalandou, a brother, John N. Constantine ; sister in law, Nina Constantine, 4 sisters, Calliope C. Cotoulas, Irene Miltiades, Helen Ludlow, and Evangeline Mastopoulos (Nick); several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church. Trisagion Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Church.
