STATESBORO - Emily Louise Kupferschmid Broucek went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 27th, 2009. In 1943, Emily married the love of her life, Jack W. Broucek (deceased). Their three children survive her: Daniel M. Broucek; William S. (and Carolyn) Broucek, and Sylvia B. (and George) Mesaros. There are also four grandchildren: Sam (and Michelle) Broucek, Ben (and Jessica) Broucek, Lisa (and Doug) Rumsey, Scott (and Julie) Mesaros. Emily also has four great-grandchildren: Jay Broucek, Hannah Rumsey, Isabel and Jackson Mesaros. A large number of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great nephews also survive. Visitation will be held at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home this Sunday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Statesboro, on Monday, November 30th, 2009, at 3:00PM. METTER - John Robert (Bobby) Brown, 46, died Friday November 27, 2009. The native of Portsmouth Va. lived most of his life in Metter, was a member of New Life Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class. Bobby served in the Navy, owned and operated his own trucking company, loved fishing, grilling out, following Dale Jr. on the NASCAR circuit, and called himself a #1 golf hacker. He especially enjoyed his morning walks and referred to that time as his GOD time. He was preceded in death by his father J.W. Brown . HINESVILLE, LIBERTY COUNTY, GEORGIA - Eloise Marion Bruce, 84, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a short illness. Mrs. Bruce was born on September 8, 1925 in Savannah, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stewart. She was a graduate of Savannah High School and Draughons Practical Business College. She moved to Hinesville in 1958 where she was an active member of the Hinesville First United Methodist Church and the Ollie Darsey Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bruce had served as Church Secretary in the past and was a member of the choir. She was employed at Pirkle and Pirkle Law Firm as administrative assistant for the past fifteen years and was a member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, William N. Bruce, Jr. of Hinesville; one son, Lloyd Kelsey Busby, III and wife Barbara of Hinesville; three daughters, Harriette B. McDaniel and husband Clifford L. of Hazlehurst, GA, Billie L. Wilt of Charlotte, NC and Julie B. Snider and husband Ronald D. of Foley Alabama; one sister, Jacqueline Smith of Prattville, AL; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Hinesville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. SAVANNAH - Dolores Remion Clark ("Mom" to all), 87, of Savannah, GA., passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on Nov. 26, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born in Savannah, GA, on Feb. 16, 1922 and was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Clark, a son, Billy Clark; 2 grandsons, Timmy and Jeff Mascunana; a granddaughter, Tara Clark; and 2 great grandsons, Alec Heneghen and Christopher Webber. Dolores was a 1941 graduate of Saint Vincent's Adademy, member and past President of the Council of Catholic Women; and a member of the Serria Club. Dolores was a devoted Communicant of St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church where she was also known as "Mom", "Grandma", and "Dody". She was a dedicated and humble servant at St Frances Cabrini Church since it's dedication in 1969. Mom was very active in almost all aspects of parish life. For her long years and dedicated service to the church she was the first recipient of the "Gartland Award" from St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. She also received the "McAuley Award" from St Vincent's Academy. Mom was loved by many, and shared her love with everyone. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, "Nana" and a friend to all. Mom's life was centered around her family, friends, and church. She is survived by 2 sons, Michael Clark and Freddie Clark (Joyce), both of Savannah, GA; 3 daughters, Rose Mascunana (George) of Savannah, GA; Gloria Heneghen (Skip) of Washington State; and Betty Dorondo (John) of Virginia; a sister, Elaine West of Missouri; 19 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, with Msgr. Dr. Ida Jenkins Gadsden -
SAVANNAH - Dr. Ida Jenkins Gadsden died Thursday, November 26, 2009 at Hospice Savannah. The Savannah native received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia State College Savannah. GA. She earned her Masters in Education degree from North Carolina College in Durham, NC and her Doctorate in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. Gadsden taught at Beach-Cuyler High School and in rural Kentucky before returning to Savannah. She was the first health educator to be employed by the Chatham County Health Department under the tutelage of Dr. Henderson who was very forward thinking for that time. Dr. Gadsden's career in education spanned over thirty years during which she held professorships at North Carolina College, Savannah State College and retired from Armstrong State College. Dr. Gadsden served on the Savannah Airport Commission for many years and was Chairperson for thirteen years. During her chairmanship she signed the bonds for construction of the new Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. She was a member of The First Congregational Church. Her spiritual strength was unwavering and her friends and family reaped the benefits of her counsel and her love. Among her gifts, her creative mind permitted her to be an artist in cooking and sewing. Her husband, The Honorable Eugene H. Gadsden, preceded her in death on August 9, 2000. Surviving are her daughter, Greer Gadsden Larned, M.D. of Savannah; her son, Geoffrey Eugene Gadsden of Durham, NC; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 30, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. FORT RILEY, GEARY COUNTY, KA - SGT Craig Michael Gaglia, 24, passed away peacefully on November 23rd, 2009 in Fort Riley Kansas. Craig was born on July 26th, 1985 in Augusta, Georgia. The youngest son of Joseph and Sallie Gaglia, Craig lived most of his life in Fleming, Georgia. A 2003 graduate of Savannah Christian Preparatory School, he served as a combat medic with the 1st Infantry Division. Craig served two tours of duty in Iraq receiving the Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal along with numerous other commendations. Craig had spent the last five years living in Fort Riley, Kansas while not stationed abroad. Craig is survived by his father and stepmother Joseph and Anne Gaglia (Savannah), brother Scott Gaglia (Atlanta), stepbrother Robert Rader (Rome) and stepsister Lara Brown (Chattanooga). In addition, Craig is also survived by aunts and uncles Betty Cox (Fleming), David and Mary Clark (Fleming), Kathy and Bill Webb (Fleming) along with numerous loving cousins. Preceding Craig in death are his mother Sallie Gaglia (2002), grandfather Lloyd Clark (1985) and grandmother Louise Clark (2002). TYBEE ISLAND - Ann Mooney Powers, 83, died peacefully at home November 26, 2009 surrounded by her loving children. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James Hayes Powers; her parents, James J. and Julia D. Mooney; her brother, James J. Mooney, Jr., and her sister, Mary Mooney DeCastra. Mrs. Powers was a graduate of Cathedral Day School and St. Vincent's Academy. She was a devout member of St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tybee Island for fifty-five years. Ann married Jimmy Powers in 1949 and she loved nothing more than her family and her church. The Powers reared a large family on Tybee, where Ann was very active in the school and church organizations. In 2006, Ann was presented the Bishop Gartland Award for her long and loyal service to the Catholic Church. In her spare time, Ann took pleasure in gardening, reading and sewing. She was renowned for her granddaughters' smocked dresses. At one time, she owned and operated an import/salvage store in Savannah. In recent years, Ann enjoyed the happy sights and sounds of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as babies continued to fill her heart and her home. Ann is survived by her nine children: Jimmy Powers, Matt Powers, Julie Bradley (Tom), George Powers (Ellen), Robby Powers (Cynthia), Andy Powers (Blanche), Mary McCusker (Jim), Ann Marie Powers, and Joe Powers (Kris); twenty-three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ann is also survived by her sister-in-law, Isabelle Killorin; brother-in-law, Joe DeCastra; and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Sunday, November 29, 2009, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, with the Vigil Service at 6:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Monday, November 30, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jimmy Powers, Charlie Powers, George Powers, Jimmy McCusker, Tommy Bradley and John Dowell. The family wishes to express special gratitude to Anne C. Kelly, Delcie Clark and Besem Tabe and to the Hospice nurses, Maggie Coogan and Boukje Gijlstra-Mims. SAVANNAH - Paul Mann Shreve, 56, died November 24, 2009 in Bozeman, MT. where he had lived for the past 35 years following his graduation from Montana State University. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ann (Shellenberg) Shreve; his father, Robert Shreve; sister, Virginia Shreve and her husband Carey Gregory; brothers and their wives, John (Vicki), Daniel (Tami), and Michael (Judy). Paul loved the outdoors, and particularly enjoyed being with friends, floating down the three rivers which flow into the Missouri, fishing and taking nourishment. He also preferred working outdoors, usually in home construction. He was a prolific writer, with many published humorous (and sometimes serious) articles and poems to his credit. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. STATESBORO - Mrs. Stubbs (Maggie), passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the home of her daughter, Cindy Stubbs Brogdon. She was born on November 11, 1926 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1944. After graduation, she moved to Savannah, Georgia where she met her husband Otis Stubbs, Jr. She is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Viola Rooney, her sister Thelma Louise Rooney, her husband Otis Stubbs, Jr. and her nephew Stephen R. Harris, Jr. She made her home on the Isle of Hope and worked for the Citizens and Southern Bank (Bank of America) for many years. Of Episcopal faith, she and her family were very active members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She moved to Claxton and then to Statesboro to be near family. While in Statesboro, she worked as financial secretary for, and was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Mrs. Stubbs is survived by her daughters; Diane S. Archer (Paul V.) of Charlotte, N.C. and, Cindy S. Brogdon of Statesboro, Ga; two grandchildren, Andrew Archer and Emily Brogdon; a sister-in-law Ann S. McCarthy of Savannah, Ga. Funeral service will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 4401 Country Club Road, Statesboro, Georgia. The graveside service will be on Monday at 2:00 pm, at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia. The family would like to give special thanks to all of the professionals at East Georgia Regional Medical Center and Ogeechee Area Hospice for the special care given to our Mother and Grandmother. We will forever be grateful for all the help and support that you have given each of us and for showing our Mother so much kindness and dignity in her final days.
