DOVER, DE - Lt. Col. USAF Ret. James W. Sanders of Dover, died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 76. He was born November 21, 1933 in Northport, Alabama to the late Manly M. Sanders and Eunice Smalley Sanders. Mr. Sanders retired in 1981 after 24 years with the United States Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia L. Sanders of Dover; children, Pamela S. Willis and her husband Gary of Dover, Loretta (Lori) Blackiston of Willow Street, PA, James W. Sanders, Jr. and his wife Denise of Colo. Springs, CO, David A. Sanders and his wife Lisa of Dover; grandchildren, Edward, Michael and Gary Willis, Jr., Bryan, Gillian, Spencer Blackiston, Ellen, Collin, Alyssa and Alison Sanders; his brother, Marion Sanders and his wife Sharon of Ottowa Lake, MI. Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Edwards, age 57 of Vidalia, died Monday, December 07, 2009 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Muskegon, Michigan and had lived most of her life there. She had resided in New Hampshire since 1998 and moved to Vidalia 2007. She was an optician, a dairy farmer, and homemaker. She attended the Vidalia Church of God and was preceded in death by a son, Steven Miller, her parents, Walter Hughes and Nyla Ruby French Hughes. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend.

 

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her beloved husband, Alan Edwards of Vidalia, three sons, Troy E. Miller and Cammie of Manistee, Michigan; Joshua D. Edwards and Alexis and William C. Edwards and Laura all of Nashua, New Hampshire, two sisters, Charlotte Bennet and Carl and Janet Zwiefka and Danny all of Manistee, Michigan, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 15th at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Smith officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to God’s Store House, 300 McIntosh St., Vidalia, GA 30474.

SAVANNAH - Jewel Horne Foley, 83, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at The Woods Assisted Living Center in Griffin, Ga. Born in Chatham County, Mrs. Foley was the daughter of the late Earlie M. Horne and Ruby Wilkerson Horne. Mrs. Foley resided with her husband, James Foley at 607 2nd Ave on Tybee Island from 1970 until they moved to Griffin in 2005. She was an active member of Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Foley was preceded in death by her brother, Earlie M. Horne, Jr., of Tybee Island. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James D. Foley, son and daughter-in-law Larry and Kim Foley of Griffin, son, Jerry Foley of Alexandria, Va, granddaughters Sara Prisk of Griffin and Emily Reynolds of Newnan, Ga., great-grandsons Judah and Gideon Prisk of Griffin; brothers and sisters-in-law Martha Horne of Savannah, Sinclair and Yvonne Horne of Prattville, AL, Loring and Jackie Horne of Wilmington Island, Frank and Beatty Horne of Bloomingdale, Ga; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. SAVANNAH - Louise James Hamm, 96, passed from this life on Monday, December 7, 2009 at home after a long illness. She was a few weeks shy of her 97th birthday. She loved and served The Lord Jesus and was the last living of twelve charter members of Coastal Cathedral Church of God and was a former Sunday School teacher of the young girls class. She was a fulltime homemaker until later in life she fulfilled her desire to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was an accomplished seamstress. She was the first born of eight children to Thomas and Catherine James in Easley, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Preston Noah Hamm. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Brown and Joy Lucas of Savannah; granddaughter, Elaine Harris (Reggie) of Marietta, GA; grandsons, Harold Brown (Brenda) of Statesboro and Edwin Preston Lucas of Key West, FL; great-grandchildren, Joshua Brown who is proudly serving in the U.S. Army, Michelle Harris of Oxford, MS, Matthew Harris (Linda) of Gulf Shores, AL, Chelsea Brown and Caleb Brown of Statesboro; little great-great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Annabelle and Elena Harris of Gulf Shores, AL. AUGUSTA - Joyce Muirhead, formerly Joyce M. Tillman, 69, retired businesswoman and nurse entered into eternal rest on December 9, 2009 at 6:45 A.M. A native of Tillar, Arkansas, she was a resident of the Statesboro area and Savannah for many years. She was a graduate of Armstrong State University and studied at Victory Bible Institute and Missionary Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She volunteered her nursing skills on several medical mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. She was a daily communicant at Church of the Most Holy Trinity. She is survived by her two daughters, Vanee T. Blanchette of Statesboro, GA. and Cheri T. Kirby of Bartow, GA. She leaves five grandchildren, sister; Mrs. L. S. (Dolores) Coleman; niece, Mrs. James L. She retired from Metter Banking Company after many years as a bank teller and was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church. Mildred and Roy loved traveling in their camper. She was a loving wife, mother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Osborne and a son, Harry Osborne. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Kermit Powell of the Cedar Creek Community; a brother, Lehman Tucker, JR of Metter; several nieces and nephews. MT. VERNON, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, GEORGIA - Mrs. Christina Howie Harris "Chris" Thigpen, 81, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, December 09, 2009 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, U.K., and lived and worked in London, England. In 1951 she met her husband Max while he was stationed in the Air Force, and they married in 1953 in Windsor, England. After their marriage they lived in Macon for three years and have resided in Mt. Vernon since 1957. She was the owner and operator of Chris' Flower Shop in Mt. Vernon for twenty-one years, and was a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Mrs. Thigpen is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Max Thigpen of Mt. Vernon; two sons, LaFaye Thigpen (Bee) of Byron, and Kevin Thigpen (Laura) of Bishop; one brother, Jack Harris of Cambridge, England, seven grandchildren, Katie, Laura, Kimsey (Josh) Golden, Max, Jean-Paul LaFleur (Samantha), Caroline LaFleur and Kim L. Mrs. Christina Howie Harris “Chris” Thigpen, age 81 of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, December 09, 2009 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, U.K., and lived and worked in London, England. In 1951 she met her husband Max while he was stationed in the Air Force, and they married in 1953 in Windsor, England. After their marriage they lived in Macon for three years and have resided in Mt. Vernon since 1957. She was the owner and operator of Chris’ Flower Shop in Mt. Vernon for twenty-one years, and was a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

 

Mrs. Thigpen is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Max Thigpen of Mt. Vernon; two sons, LaFaye Thigpen (Bee) of Byron, and Kevin Thigpen (Laura) of Bishop; one brother, Jack Harris of Cambridge, England, seven grandchildren, Katie, Laura, Kimsey (Josh) Golden, Max, Jean-Paul LaFleur (Samantha), Caroline LaFleur and Kim L. Strickland (Eric), five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Lucus LaFleur, and Jackson, Anna, and Charlotte Strickland, numerous nieces, nephews, and three special longtime friends, Lila Gibbs, Betty Massey, and Maureen  Reynolds.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 11th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend David Haygood, Reverend Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.

Evelyn Waldhour Ward -

 

SAVANNAH - Evelyn Waldhour Ward, 90, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Hospice House. A native and lifelong resident of Savannah, she was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mrs. Ward retired from Union Camp Corporation and following retirement worked for the Social Security Administration. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Ward. Survivors include her sons, Elton W. Waldhour and his wife, Lacey, of McDouough, GA, Alvin B. Ward, Sr. and his wife, Rose, of Tybee Island; daughter, Diane Waldhour Forkner, of Savannah; four grandsons, Jeff Mosley, Ashley Mosley, Christopher Waldhour, and Benjie Ward; three granddaughters, Nicole Smith, Jennifer Collins, and Amy Tracey; and thirteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2009, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Peter. J. Hartmann officiating.
