Amy Margaret Johnson Bannerman -

 

DARIEN - Amy Margaret Johnson Bannerman passed away peacefully on December 13, 2009 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 27, 1941 in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle Johnson. In 1960, she married Charles W. Bannerman, Jr. of Garden City, Ga., whom she met at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. Amy and Bill lived throughout the United States and the world where they made many friends and had many adventures before retiring to Belvedere Island Plantation in McIntosh County, Georgia. Amy leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years Bill; her daughter Lisa and her husband Jeff Holmes of Ballston Spa, New York and her son Karl and his wife Eileen of Charlotte, North Carolina; her four grandchildren, Evan, Colin, Katie, and Sarah; her two sisters, Toni Christmas of Choteau, Montana and Edna Badt of Hamilton, Montana. A memorial service celebration her life will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday December 19, 2009 at the Belvedere Island Plantation Club House. CUMMING, FORSYTH COUNTY, GEORGIA - Jamie P. Berry, 83, and Harold B. Berry, Jr., 90, formerly of Macon, passed away on Sunday and Tuesday respectively. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street with burial at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Savannah. The Rev. Perry Porter will officiate. The family will meet friends from 9:30 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Berry was the daughter of the late James Matthew and Florence Glisson Patrick and Mr. Berry was the son of the late Harold B. and Ruby Gillam Berry. Both were born in Savannah and were members of Tattnall Square Baptist Church. He was retired from Englehard Corporation as a process engineer and she was a retired sales clerk at Macy's. Survivors include two sons, H. Edward (Leanne) Berry of Bonaire and James E. (Priscilla) Berry of Cumming; four grandchildren, Jared Berry, Anderson Berry, Ryan Berry and Margaret Berry; her sister, Ollie Martha DeLoach of Savannah; his nephews, William C. Meehan, Ron and Dale Finkner; her nieces and nephews, including Herbert Skinner, Jr. Robert DeLoach, Patsy Grainger and Catherine Lyles. Joe Gerald Braddy, Jr. -

 

GUYTON - Joe Gerald Braddy, Jr., 88, of Guyton, Ga., and formerly of Savannah, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at Azalealand Convalescent Center, under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc., surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 4, 1921 in Swainsboro, Ga., and was a Graduate of Swainsboro High School where he played all sports, and he attended North Georgia College before joining the U.S. Navy where he served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Thelma Ree Braddy and resided in Savannah, where he worked for Savannah Electric and Power Co., for 32 years before leaving to start several prosperous businesses, including Braddy Electric Co., Golden Blend Hush Puppies, Georgia Sound and Recording, Coastal Maintenance, Custom Engineering and Ga Coastal Electric. He was an active participant in the community in coaching Savannah youth league athletics. His company, along with Dan Vaden Chevrolet and WTOC's Doug Weathers, brought back Savannah's "Tree of Light" tradition, which is still celebrated today. He was a member of Ancient Landmark Lodge # 231, F. & A.M's, the York Rite Commandery, the Scottish Rite Consistory - Valley of Savannah, Alee Shrine Temple, and the Old Times Soft Ball League. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Union, and had just recently received his 65 year pin. He is survived by two sons and daughters in law, from Savannah, Gerald and Pamela Braddy, Glenn and Suzanne Braddy, a daughter and son in law, Ann and Larry Cosnahan of Guyton, Ga; 8 grandchildren, Angie Tindle, Joshua, Jerry, Gabriel, Abigail, Victoria, Joseph of Savannah, Albert Cosnahan of Metter, Ga., three great grand children , Jacob and Hannah Tindle, and Lillia Braddy. Like children, John and Brenda McCuten, Wayne and Pat Christian, Ben and Sue Boyette, Jeff and Faye Wilson and Denny Herb. Care taker and close friend, Betty Johnson and her family. Barbara Livingston Catoe -

 

SAVANNAH - Barbara Livingston Catoe, 79, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Hospice House. She was born in Cuthbert, GA and was raised in Savannah. She graduated from Commercial High School and was a former employee of Atlanta Gas Light, the F.B.I., and Self-Service Furniture/Director Enterprises. She was a longtime member of Whitefield United Methodist Church. She loved her daughter, who she called her Angel, and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her extended family with all her heart. Due to poor health she was unable to enjoy any hobbies or even going to church. She loved her Lord and Savior and was an intelligent and wonderful lady. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carson H. Catoe, who was a former engineer with the CSX Railroad, and her parents, Arthur Bryan Livingston and Mabel Hardwick Livingston, and three of her six siblings, A. Paul Livingston, Eline Wear, and Dorthy Moseley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Catoe Hirsch and Marvin R. Hirsch, of Savannah, four grandchildren, Ken Howell, Christi Lumley, Bryan Lumley, and Katie Hirsch. She is also survived by three siblings, James L. Livingston, of Savannah, Ray Livingston, of Claxton, and Fay Williams, of Arkansas, one sister-in-love Doris L. Lanier, and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Austin, Madison, Carson, and Waylon, several nieces and nephews and her loving caretaker and friend, Bernice Wallace Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Islands Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors. SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - Allan Gilbert Daring, Jr., 93, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family under the care of Island Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan G. and Jessie Mae Cooler Daring and a grandson, Jesse G. Daring, Jr. He was born in Tillman, SC and raised here in Savannah. He was retired from Hammock Moving and Storage as their warehouse manager after more than 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Taxie Service of Savannah for 25 years until his health started to fail. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, 88 Bg. 399 Squadran during World War II. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher for 55 years. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace Vaughn Daring; three sons, Allan G., III, (Judy); James "Eddie," (Pat), all of Savannah; Jesse G. Daring, Sr. (Tena) Alabama; one daughter, Rebecca D. Saxon (John) of Summerville, SC; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grand children and 5 great- great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Joe Bostic DeLoach, Jr. -

 

ESTILL, SC - Mr. Joe Bostic DeLoach, Jr., died Tuesday morning, December 15, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness. Born July 6, 1926 in Hampton County, SC, he was the son of the late Joe B. DeLoach, Sr. and Ora Mae Long DeLoach. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the Army, he was both a reporter and printer for the Stars and Stripes Newspaper and after his discharge he was a typesetter with the Hampton County Guardian, The Savannah Morning News,The Charleston News and Courier, The State Newspaper as well as other papers in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and owned DeLoach Printing Company in Hampton for 14 years. He was a member of the Stafford Masonic Lodge #216 for 53 years, the Eastern Star, Lillie Chapter #21 and the Jahab Shrine Club in Hampton. He was the oldest member of Steep Bottom Baptist Church near Estill, SC. Married for 60 years to his beloved wife, Doris Tuten DeLoach of the home, he is also survived by: two sons: Joe DeLoach, III and wife Betty of Varnville and David DeLoach and wife Stephanie of Estill; five daughters: Viree Brown and husband Wayne of Estill, Juanita Freeman and husband Gene of Brunson, Kathy Dempsey and husband Willie of Early Branch, Virginia Douglas and husband Buddy of Hampton and Mary Cooper and husband Mark of Furman and 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, William H. DeLoach and Herman DeLoach as well as two infant sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 18, 2009 at 2 PM in the Steep Bottom Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Charles Moore and Rev. Dr. Thomas Kelly. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow in the Steep Bottom Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 PM on Thursday at the residence of his son, David DeLoach at 336 Joe DeLoach Lane near Estill. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 PM prior to the service. RINCON -Miriam Parker Dickerson, 87, of Rincon, and formerly of Savannah, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at Memorial Medical Health University. She was born in Screven County, GA., and had lived in Savannah since 1945. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim E. Dickerson. She was retired from the Big Star Food Store, after 30 years of service as a Cashier. She was a former member of Taliaferro Baptist Church, which is now the Whitmarsh Island Baptist Church, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, the Church Training Department, and the WMU. She was a former member of the Senior Citizens of Savannah, and more recently of the Effingham County Senior Citizens Club. Miriam loved her lord, was a wonderful homemaker, cook, gardener. She is survived by 2 sons, Robert Wayne Dickerson (Carmen Dell Dickerson), of Rincon, Ga; and Durwood Parker of Savannah, Ga; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - Mr. John Oliver Grant, 82, entered into rest at the residence surrounded by his loving family under Hospice care. The Savannah native attended the public schools of Chatham County, was a graduate of Alfred E. Beach High School Class of 1944 and of Savannah State College (University). He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He retired after 34 years of service to the U. S. Postal Service as a postal clerk. He was a member of the Frank Callen Boys Association and an avid golfer. He is survived by three daughters; Kathleen (Moses) King, Vanessa Abdullah (Joseph) Dobson, Lisa Grant (Curtis Eady), a special cousin; Gwendolyn (Willie) Brown of Stockton, CA, 8 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, a host of cousins and other relatives. She was a member of First Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of Ruth Chapter #3 International F. & A. M. Mason and Order of Eastern Star for over 20 years. She was employed at Levy Jewelers over 30 years until retirement in 2008. She was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School system graduating from Beach High School class of 1953. She leaves to cherish her memory one uncle ,Mr. Joseph C. Virginia "Vergie" Barbee Mell (July 10, 1933-December 16, 2009).  

 

SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - Mrs. Virginia "Vergie" Barbee Mell, 76, passed away December 16, 2009. She was the youngest child, born July 10, 1933, in Savannah, Georgia, of the late Charles Allan Barbee and Laura Johnson Barbee Bradshaw. Her brightness was known from the day she was born. She was an avid reader. She graduated from Commercial High School. Mrs. Mell was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Benedictine Athletic Association, The Daughters of Ireland, and the American Legion Post #184 Ladies Auxiliary. She was retired from J. C. Lewis Enterprises and the Chatham County Tax Commissioners Office. She enjoyed playing bridge with various groups and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and everyone's friend. She was known for her jokes and wonderful sense of humor. Vergie was the widow of Coach John E. "Vic" Mell. Along with her husband, Vergie was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Allen Barbee, Jr., Cecil Barbee, Freddie A. Barbee, Joseph Henry Barbee, and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Barbee Green and Annie Laura Barbee Pierce. She is survived by her five children, Laura Mell Summerlin (William), Victoria Mell McCuen (Edwin), Valerie Mell Rogers (Daniel), Mary Katherine "Katie" Mell, and John Fitzgerald Mell; her grandchildren, Jason P. Rogers, Justin D. Rogers, Edwin J. McCuen, Jr. (Abby), Patrick J. Summerlin (Carol), John D. Rogers, Keenan S. Summerlin, Brandon M. Mell, Virginia M. "Ginny" McCuen, Nolan F. Mell, Jordan C. Rogers, Laura Elizabeth Summerlin, Celee Perkins Mell, Joseph Mell McCuen, Joshua C. Rogers; and one great-grandchild, Caitlin E. Summerlin; sisters and sister-in-law, Vivian Barbee Bedgood, Evelyn Barbee Arnsdorff Tuten, and Daisy Edmondson Barbee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; her dear, caring, and special friend Barbara Saseen White, and her loving caregiver, Shannon Walthour. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 18, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be all nine of her grandsons. Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. He was a skilled builder and cabinetmaker all his life and fished in the Gulf waters from early childhood. He was preceded in death by his brother Steven Edward Rogge and his mother Joan Lepien Rogge. David is survived by his father and step-mother, Edward and Dee Rogge, of Savannah, GA; two sisters, Katherine Ruckdeschel and her husband Mike of Pascagoula, MS and Kathleen Rogge of Hillsborough, TX; two nieces, Rachel Smith and her husband Jeremy of Los Angeles, CA, and Erica Ruckdeschel of Pascagoula, MS; and five nephews, David Ruckdeschel and his wife Lauren of Pascagoula, MS , Caleb Ruckdeschel of Little Rock, AK, Lange W.
