Jack L. Drawdy -

 

CLYO - Jack L. Drawdy, 83, passed away November 30, 2009 quietly in his sleep under the care of Odyssey health care and his family. The Savannah native was the son of David R. Drawdy and Sara Elizabeth Hill Drawdy on December 27, 1925. He attended Savannah High School where he was on the boxing team and swim team. He achieved Golden Glove boxer awards at Savannah High, Savannah YMCA, and the United States Navy, while serving during WWII. He was an avid swimmer and lifeguard at Savannah Beach (Tybee Island) before and after WWII. He was a lifelong golfer and photographer. He moved to Rincon, Georgia over thirty years ago, retiring from Savannah Electric and Power Co. (Georgia Power) as Trouble Operation Supervisor in the Springfield Division after 43 years of service. He was of Christian faith, attending many churches throughout his life in the Savannah, Rincon, and Springfield area. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah E. Drawdy Jordan, three brothers, Louis R. Drawdy, Charles Robert (Bob) Drawdy and his twin brother James Drawdy, all of Savannah. Survivors include a sister, Grace E. Drawdy Ledgerwood and brother-in-law, Robert Ledgerwood (Ingleside, IL). Three daughters, Deborah D. Philp and son-in-law, John R. Philp(Wilmington, OH), Jacqueline D. Butler and son-in-law Michael Butler (Pembroke, GA) and Sandra D. Dallas (Kennewick, WA). A son, David R. Drawdy and daughter-in-law Sharon B. Drawdy (Clyo, GA). Seven grandchildren, Kristopher P. Drawdy, Brian M. Butler, David M. Butler, Kathren R. Philp, Robert F. Dallas, Rachel M. Dallas and Lucy E. Lucke. Five great grandchildren, Skylar A. Drawdy, Jack P. Lucke, Lucas P. Drawdy, Drew C. Lucke and Judah M. Dallas as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his dear companion and loving friend, Sarah A. Martin, and her daughter Tracy Kirkland and granddaughter Sara Bragg, all of Rincon, Georgia. At the request of the deceased, he wished to be cremated and there will be a private memorial service held at a later date. ELLIJAY, GILMER COUNTY, GEORGIA - Mr. Novis Kenneth Fields age 83 of Ellijay formerly of Savannah, GA died Saturday 28, 2009. Mr. Fields was born on December 4, 1925 in Emanuel Co. GA. He was a school teacher and school superintendent for 38 years. Mr. Fields was also a member of the Grace Baptist Church and was a Veteran having served in the US Navy. He is preceded in death by his mother Bessie Stroud. She was a graduate of Swainsboro High School. Martha was a longtime employee of the Savannah Golf Club where she worked in the Pro Shop and retired after 52 years of dedicated service. She was a communicant of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Mrs. Gaudry is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Julius "Sharkey" Gaudry of Savannah; daughter, Joy Bishop and husband Mark of Savannah; grandsons, Michael Herring, Jr. and wife Rachel and Adam Herring; great-grandsons, James and Christian Herring; sister, Bonnie Williamson of Oak Park, GA; brothers, Bobby Steptoe of Swainsboro, GA and Billy Steptoe of Dublin, GA and a host of nieces and nephews. SCOTIA, SC - Mrs. Virginia DeLoach Gohagan, 97, of Scotia-Furman Highway in Scotia, died Sunday evening, November 29, 2009 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville. Born October 1, 1912 in Scotia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Jacob DeLoach, Sr. and Annie Iola Mason DeLoach. She had retired from the Estill Public School System after many years of service, was a member of the Salzburg Society and the Furman Baptist Church, and was a very active church worker in her younger years. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She will be most remembered by family and friends for the time she spent with them. Married to the late Marion Claude Gohagan, she is survived by one son: Artie Gohagan and wife Rosanne of Estill; two daughters: Anne G. Bennett and husband Douglas of Estill and Brenda G. Copley and husband Ken of Bluffton and one sister, Annie Marian Shuman of Furman. There are 5 grandchildren: Ginger Kramer and husband Jerry of Blythwood, Marion Gohagan and wife Donna of Scotia, Christy Dasher and husband Ronnie of Rincon, GA, Nick Gohagan and wife Jackie of Estill and Rebecca Lingle and husband Rob of Wilmington Island, GA as well as 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 5 sisters and 1 brother. A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2,2009 at 11 AM in the Lebanon Cemetery, near Scotia, conducted by Rev. MIDLOTHIAN, VA - Robert (Bob) Allen Hilker passed away Sunday 29 November 2009 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Bob was born in St. Louis MO and was a 1952 graduate of Washington University School of Engineering. He served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA from 1953-1955. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for 40 years for Standard (Amoco) Oil Company. Bob was a member of Church of the Epiphany in Richmond; OWLS Senior Group and Circle 8 Square Dance Club. He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Helen (Haupt) Hilker and his sister Ruth (Jack) Held. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne Carter (Anne) and their five daughters and son-in-laws; Julie and Homer Tourkakis, Jeanne and John Draper, Mary and Ken Sherlock, Meg and Keith Anderson, Amy and Jon Howe and 12 grandchildren: Christine and Megan Tourkakis; Jennifer, Caroline and Jacob Draper; Andrea and Kevin Sherlock; Jacob, Justin and Carter Anderson, and Jackson and Julianna Howe. STATESBORO, BULLOCH COUNTY, GEORGIA - Ancil Donald Hodges, 83, born Nov. 2, 1926 in Statesboro, GA, died at home on Nov. 29, 2009. He was the son of the late Ancil L. Hodges and Gertrude Donaldson Hodges. He was youngest brother of the late Bonnie H. Garrick and Inman Hodges. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Billie Hulsey Hodges, son Don W. (Claire) Hodges, daughter Barbara (Randy) Sharpe, three grandchildren April (David) Little, Amy (Michael) Claxton of Savannah and Greg (Sheila) Hodges of Glennville and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by a loving extended family. He lived in Savannah for 37 years before retiring from Borden's. He relocated back home to Statesboro, GA 20 years ago. He was a faithful member of the Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 pm on Dec. 1st at the Eastside Cemetery with Elder Bill Durrence officiating. NASHVILLE - William Daniel (Jack) Knight was born on March 2, 193 in Ray City, GA, to E.M. (Hun) Knight and Gladys Daniel Paulk Knight (both deceased). Both were lifelong residents of Berrien County. Jack Knight was educated in the public schools of Berrien County, GA, and graduated from Ray City High School in 1951. He received a BS degree from Valdosta State College in 1955. During his time at Valdosta State, Jack was a proud member of the first Baseball Team fielded by the college. In 1958, Jack earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia that same year. Jack engaged in the active practice of law in State and Federal Courts for 19 years in Nashville, GA. He served as the County Attorney as well as City Attorney for Alapaha, Enigma, and Ray City. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nashville, GA. He was also a member and supporter of the Berrien County Historical Foundation. Jack also enjoyed being part of the New Lois Community Club and numerous other civic and community organizations. His political involvements included serving on the City Council of Ray City. In 1961 he was elected to service in the Georgia House of Representatives and served two more terms. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and the Gridiron Society. In 1958, he entered the Georgia National Guard at Cochran Field in Macon, GA. He later transferred to the National Guard of Georgia Company C, 121st Armored infantry 160 Armored Group, Tifton, GA. Jack served as Judge of the Superior Courts of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit from May 24, 1977 to December 31, 1996 when he was appointed senior judge. Jack's life wars full of love for his family, friends, the law and Cedar Hill Farm. Through his service to his community and his character, he left an indelible mark in the hearts and lives of many. He was preceded in death by his brother Jim Paulk and and sister Louise Paulk Moran. Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane Stallings Knight; daughter, Elizabeth Knight Bobbitt and her husband Jeff of Macon; son, William Daniel "Dan" Knight, Jr., and his wife Julie English Knight of Nashville. He is also survived by two loving grandchildren, Harrison and Lucy Bobbitt of Macon. He also leaves his good friend Steven Green. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Nashville with a private interment to follow. The family may be contacted at home. He loved to travel and will be remembered for his kindness and consideration to all he knew and met. Commander William Walker Wright, Sr. -

 

SAVANNAH - Commander William Walker Wright, Sr., 83, died Friday, November 27, 2009 in Savannah. He was a resident of Charleston, South Carolina and recently moved to Savannah. He was born in Murphysboro, Illinois on March 19, 1926. During WWII he fought in Europe with the United States Army. Upon his return home he entered the United States Naval Academy where he graduated Class of 1949 with a BS degree. He also earned a degree in electrical engineering from the United States Naval Postgraduate School and a Master in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University. When he retired from the United States Navy, he had given 28 years of armed forces service to our country spanning WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He worked as an engineer at the Medical University of South Carolina, The Citadel and AVCO. Bill was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Charleston and was a master gardener. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan W. Hussey. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Lois McKeithen Wright; one son, William Walker Wright, Jr. and his wife, Martha, of Savannah; one sister, Iva Lou Polley, of Illinois, and four grandchildren, Megan A. Hussey, Patrick M. Hussey, Elizabeth R. Wright, and William Walker Wright, III all of Savannah.
