Mrs. Ruby Brown Akins (July 14, 1922-December 12, 2009).  

 

CLAXTON, EVANS COUNTY, GEORGIA - Mrs. Ruby Brown Akins, 87, died Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Evans Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Blitchton. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her husband of sixty four years, Lehman Akins, her daughter, Faye Akins, and her brother, Robert Brown. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Elaine Akins of Claxton, and Gary and Sharon Akins of Jacksonville; one brother and sister-in-law, J.O. and Jenny Brown of Savannah; grandchildren, Shane Akins of Ellabell, Angie Holland of Lyons, and Linda Thornton of Rincon; step grandchildren, Ashley Harvey of Collins, Lisa White of Jacksonville, Marie White of Jacksonville, and Alan Young of Savannah; great grandchildren, Brittney Cowart, Brandon Cowart, Adam Akins, Philip Akins, and several step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Rev. SAVANNAH - Linda Gail Perry Emsweller, 62, of Savannah, Georgia, wife of Jerry Robert Emsweller, died Friday afternoon, December 11, 2009, at her home under the care of Hospice Savannah. Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Lester Perry and the late Cleo Wasson Perry. Linda was a member of Central Christian Church and was a homemaker. She loved her family and particularly enjoyed finishing puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Frankie Riner, and two brothers, Danny Perry and George Perry. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Jerry Robert Emsweller of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Susan Nicole Coulter and her husband, Shawn, of Rincon, Georgia, and Jenny Lynn Davis and her husband, William Joe Davis, Jr., of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Terry R. Emsweller and Patrick Ryan Emsweller and his wife, Tiffany Marie, all of Savannah, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Haley Coulter, Zoey Coulter, Cody Coulter, Dylan Emsweller, Emma Davis, Alexander Emsweller and Jason Emsweller; five sisters including her twin, Brenda Deal and her husband, Waddy, of Statesboro, Georgia, Judy Taylor and her husband, Tommy, and Peggy Otto and her husband, Glenn, all of Savannah, Georgia, Patsy Morris and her husband, Scott, of Rincon, Georgia, and Helen Sherrod and her husband, Arthur, of Midville, Georgia, and her brother-in-law, Danny Emsweller and his wife, Michelle, of Atlanta, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue. Lanier Alexander (Ennie) Hunnicutt -

 

METTER - Lanier Alexander (Ennie) Hunnicutt, 82, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at his home. Lanier was a life-long resident of Candler County living in the Union Community all of his life. A graduate of Metter High School, he attended North Georgia Military School before enlisting in the US Navy. He served as Yeoman on the USS Hocking in the Pacific Region during the last months of World War II and served as a Ceremonial Guard at the United Nations Inauguration in San Francisco. After his military service, he attended the University of Georgia graduating with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was a lifelong member of Metter Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Clerk of Session, and Sunday School Teacher. During his 50 year farming career he was recognized as Soil Conservation Man of the Year in 1967 and Outstanding Young Farmer. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Excelsior EMC Board of Directors for more than 40 years. He also served on the Candler County Tax Assessors Board and the Board of Directors of Metter Banking Company/ First Banking Company of Southeast Georgia. Survivors: wife, Barbara B. Hunnicutt; son, Len Hunnicutt; daughters, Holly Hunnicutt, and Ginger (John) Karrh; brother, Howard Hunnicutt; sisters, Jean Kent and Lynette Durrence; and 4 grandchildren, Jonathon and Hailey Hunnicutt, and Kristen and Kaitlin Karrh. Funeral services will be 11:00 Monday at the Metter Presbyterian Church with the body to lie in state one hour before the service. Visitation will be at the church Sunday evening 5-8. Curtis Eugene (Gene) Moore -

 

TELLICO VILLAGE, TN - Curtis Eugene (Gene) Moore, a resident of Tellico Village, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home in Maryville. Gene was born in South Knoxville on November 30, 1934. He attended Knoxville High School and was in the first graduating class at South High School. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Industrial Engineering in 1956. Subsequently he graduated from the U. S. Navy Officer Candidate School. After further training at Sandia Base, NM, he served on board USS Saratoga (CVA-60) and at the Nuclear Weapons Training Center, Atlantic Fleet. He met and married his wife, Linda while serving in Norfolk, VA. After his naval service, Gene was employed by Union Camp Corporation, a forest products company. During his 31 years with Union Camp he held various management positions and he and Linda lived in Franklin VA, Savannah GA, Wayne NJ and Orange, TX. Upon retirement in 1993 they moved to Tellico Village. They have thoroughly enjoyed boating, traveling and the beauty of the East Tennessee area. Gene enjoyed golf for many years, having played approximately 100 courses. For many years he sang in various choral organizations - among them were the Knoxville High School Choir, the Knoxville Choral Society, the UT Singers and the UT Opera Workshop. He also sang in the Savannah Symphony Orchestra Choral Society and Savannah Little Theater, "Inherit The Wind", "Promise's Promise's and "Show Boat". Preceded in death by parents, Joe and Hester Hackworth Moore and daughter, Jodi Yardman. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 49 years, Linda Darnell Moore; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Dr. Geni Moore of Maryville; son-in-law, Scott Yardman of Black Creek, GA; grandchildren, Brian and Jessica Yardman and Michael, Madison and Bradley Moore; brother and sister- in-law, Joe and Barbara Moore of Jonesborough. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in South Knoxville with Dr. Charlie Barnard officiating. The Screven County native was a member of Turkey Branch United Methodist Church and attended Hunter Post Chapel where he was a former usher. He retired from Gulfstream and the Army National Guard as a SSG after 36 years. He was a former mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Redd, Sr. and Annie Phillips Redd. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Wyles Redd of Savannah; daughter, Heather Redd of Savannah; sister-in-law, Freida Rahn of Clyo; and several nieces and nephews.
