Brandon Scott Clark, age 26 of the South Thompson Community, Vidalia, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 near Uvalda from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, was a cook at Big Ma’s in Uvalda, attended Toombs County High School, attended the Uvalda Church of God, and was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Billy and Sarah Gray and his paternal grandparents, L. F. and Dessie Clark.

 

Brandon is survived by his son, Brodie Jase Clark of Milledgeville, his parents, Tammy and Steve Calhoun of Uvalda and Dallas and Rosalyn Clark of Vidalia, six sisters, Kathy Clark of Dublin; Lacy Clark of Vidalia; Becky Clark of Augusta; Mikki Kilgore of Lyons, Brandy NeeSmith of Collins; Cayla NeeSmith of Uvalda and Casey NeeSmith of Uvalda, two brothers, Jessie Sharpe of Reidsville and Shane NeeSmith of Vidalia, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend John H. Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in the Galbreath Cemetery near Alston.

Mrs. Cole was a native of Savannah, GA and had lived in Augusta since 1958. She was the first female officer at C & S Bank and worked at the VA Hospital. Mrs. Cole was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and was previously a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Fred Lester Lanier -

 

SAVANNAH - Fred Lester Lanier, 84, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in the care of Hospice after a long illness. He was born and raised in Savannah. After working at Union Camp for 20 years, Fred left to devote his time to the fulltime ministry as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He became a traveling overseer, known as a Circuit Overseer, visiting congregations in more than 14 states, to strengthen and encourage them in studying the Bible and obeying our Creator, Jehovah God. After 32 years in this volunteer work, in which he visited more than 250 congregations, Fred, along with his wife, Gloria, returned home to Savannah to live with their daughters, Claire and Phyllis, on Wilmington Island. All five of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death, as well as his parents, John B. and Lisha James Lanier. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Burnsed Lanier, and their daughters, Claire and Phyllis Lanier. A memorial service will be held at the Fairhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 2794 W. SAVANNAH - Mrs. Virginia "Vergie" Barbee Mell, 76, passed away December 16, 2009. She was the youngest child, born July 10, 1933, in Savannah, Georgia, of the late Charles Allan Barbee and Laura Johnson Barbee Bradshaw. Her brightness was known from the day she was born. She was an avid reader. She graduated from Commercial High School. Mrs. Mell was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Benedictine Athletic Association, The Daughters of Ireland, and the American Legion Post #184 Ladies Auxiliary. She was retired from J. C. Lewis Enterprises and the Chatham County Tax Commissioners Office. She enjoyed playing bridge with various groups and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and everyone's friend. She was known for her jokes and wonderful sense of humor. Vergie was the widow of Coach John E. "Vic" Mell. Along with her husband, Vergie was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Allen Barbee, Jr., Cecil Barbee, Freddie A. Barbee, Joseph Henry Barbee, and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Barbee Green and Annie Laura Barbee Pierce. She is survived by her five children, Laura Mell Summerlin (William), Victoria Mell McCuen (Edwin), Valerie Mell Rogers (Daniel), Mary Katherine "Katie" Mell, and John Fitzgerald Mell; her grandchildren, Jason P. Rogers, Justin D. Rogers, Edwin J. McCuen, Jr. (Abby), Patrick J. Summerlin (Carol), John D. Rogers, Keenan S. Summerlin, Brandon M. Mell, Virginia M. "Ginny" McCuen, Nolan F. Mell, Jordan C. Rogers, Laura Elizabeth Summerlin, Celee Perkins Mell, Joseph Mell McCuen, Joshua C. Rogers; and one great-grandchild, Caitlin E. Rayford Murray, Jr. -

 

RICHMOND HILL - Rayford Murray, Jr., 60, peacefully departed us surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Murray was born in Chatham County. He lived in Richmond Hill for 18 years and previously lived in San Ramone, CA. He was a retired fireman and EMT having worked for the City of Oakland, CA Fire Department. He was a US Navy veteran having served in Vietnam and retired from the US Army as a CWO3 with over 25 years of service. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and sports fisherman. During his extended illness with cancer for over 14 years, Rayford was an inspiration to many and never gave up his fight. He was preceded in death by his father, Rayford Murray, Sr. and his uncle Charles Smith. Survivors: wife, Betty Murray, of Richmond Hill; mother, Frankie Campbell of Augusta, GA; three sisters, Pat Raines of Augusta, GA, Virginia Madsen of Jacksonville, FL and Judy Cyr of Savannah; also a step-brother, Dennis Simpson of Augusta, GA; and a special uncle, John C. WAYNESBORO, BURKE COUNTY, GEORGIA - George Leroy Thomas, 68, entered into rest Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta. He was born on November 7, 1941 to Edna A. Thomas and the late Elus S. "Bill" Thomas. A lifelong resident of Burke County, he retired as an insurance agent and furniture salesman. Along with his wife, he owned and operated a personal care home. He was a very active member of Botsford Baptist Church where he served in numerous capacities for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Berlin Crisis. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Clark Thomas, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Alice Thomas, mother, Edna A. Thomas, four children, Beverly Nelson (Gene), Angela Petrie (Kevin), Steve Thomas (Lynda), James Thomas (Charlotte), all of Waynesboro; 4 brothers, James E. Thomas, Sr. (Dot), of Hephzibah, Edward S. Thomas (Sarah), Norman R. Thomas, both of Waynesboro, and David Thomas, of Thomaston, GA., 4 sisters, Barbara T. Aldridge, Melvis T. McCullough, Becky T. Phillips (Joey), all of Waynesboro, and Dorothy T.
