She graduated from the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and worked in the Atlanta area for a number of years. In 2005, the Georgia Baptist Nurses Association, now a part of Mercer University, recognized Edna for over sixty years of service to her community and the nursing profession. While working in Atlanta, Edna met her future husband Charlie and they were married in 1938. The couple moved to Savannah in 1942 where Charlie worked as a Funeral Director with Sipples Mortuary. Edna and Charlie stepped out in faith together when they founded the DePue Wilbert Vault Co. in 1948. She served in many roles at First Presbyterian during those years. She was honored by being named Elder Emerita of the Church in 2002. Edna was very active in the community serving with the Charles Ellis P.T.A., The American Red Cross, Wymberley Garden Club and many other organizations.
